Here's a file I found, dated around April of 1996.

This is the First Floor of the Inn, as documented by RDI Thumpr. It is NOT an OFFICIAL rendition of the Inn as THERE IS NONE. The Inn is different for all people and changes constantly. This is merely a floor plan for newcomers to help them fit in more comfortably into the Inn setting with the regular, veteran patrons. This and the Second floor, (available upon request but not needed), are also in GIF form thanks to the rendering of S0URCEROR, in the IBM shareware files. Good luck and Good Adventurering!

Before you is a large 2 floored building oriented from North to South with double doors in the North wall and lights glowing from the windows cheerily. Through the doors is the Main room. In the center of the room are 2 large picnic-type tables that seat 4 on a side. Surrounding these tables are 8 smaller, round tables. Each of these tables has 4 chairs. The entire room is lit by the fireplace and two chandeliers with 6 magically glowing, head-sized balls. The chandilers, hanging from the rafters, are almost low enough to swing on. Large, wooden,I-Beam type rafters cross back and forth, forming several large triangles supporting the 2nd floor. On the center triangle, directly over the center of the room, is a large square platform which has a small table, a small square of carpet, and 6 large stuffed chairs.

The North-East corner of the Inn is marked by 2 lanes, ending in a pair or target boards, suitable for darts, daggers, or any other convenient throwable item. A magical Blackboard displays a score appropriate for each target location. In the North-West corner restrooms await those in need of relief.

Along the East wall you see 4 booths. These booths form a square with one section missing. The other 3 sections combined, are large enough to hold 5 people in comfort. The remaining section, where people enter these booths, holds a thick, heavy, magically silenced curtain. This curtain can be closed to ensure privacy for those inside the booths.

Along the West wall is a large Fireplace. It is slightly sunk into the foundation so that to get close, you must go down 2 stairs that are part of the floor surrounding it. In front of the fireplace are several overstuffed chairs and a thick rug. In the South-West Corner of the main room is an area marked by wood of a different color, apparently some type of trap door or former staging area. To the right of the bar, in the South-East corner, are stairs leading to the 2nd floor.

Against the South wall is the Bar with 15 stools in front of it and your friendly Red Dragon Innkeeper. Behind the Innkeeper, on 2 of 3 shelves, are large quantities of bottles in all sorts of common and unique shapes. On the bottom shelf, the one level to the bar, are 5 large kegs. Also beside the bar and under the stairs is a black door, leading to the Back Room, which will be described in another tale. Also behind the bar, on a row of pegs, are the keys to the rooms upstairs. Each key can only be taken from the peg by the current Innkeeper.

I'm glad I found this... this is the description used as the basis for the RDI when I was hosting/supervisor, which while I don't remember it to the letter is what the following floorplan was modeled after.

Ha!

The most important feature was left out of the description you have. All the way back to QLink days, the RDI has sported the stuffed and mounted rear end of a small red dragon on the wall behind the bar, situated high up and out of reach.

I don't remember that from QLink (tho back then I was "gollum" and sat in an oak tree in the corner throwing acorns). The RDI as it started out on Q had no real setting. One may have come about after I left in... mmm.. 98 I think.

And in all the "unofficial" descriptions of the RDI when I was around as a host and such, I don't remember such an item either. (there were never any official descriptions through my tenure as Supe)

I still say, let the dragon be free, so to speak. Let people be free to make their own quirks of the RDI. That's how most things that came into being anyway. When a group is gone that no longer remembers a part of the RDI, it fades away just like the people who created it to make room for the people who currently fill the RDI.

And yes, on Q there was a stuffed red dragon being RPed out at one point. I always pictured it as a stuffed animal though for some crazy reason. Maybe because at the time I had 100 stuffed animals?

Er, correction for clarity - stuffed toy dragon is what I always imagined it to be. Not a real stuffed dragon. heh

Yeah, I remember the stuffed toy dragons- gave them away all the time as an RDI (RDI Lite) was just q-graphics. Also remember the mounted dragon that was ever the target of someones ranged practice. But then I also remember sparring rings.

I always think of the RDI like a language, always growing and changing its details while remaining the same, in general. It is the very same RDI my character walked into back in 1997 and yet, the place has changed in some details, just a real inn would, over time.

Blast from the past, indeed.

I vaguely remember the stuffed red dragon. I remember better the hundreds of "dark corners", the rafters, and upstairs. Ahh, upstairs.
