We are in the process of testing a new chat. It's still a work in progress, but we need people to test it and ask questions.

The chat is being logged, but the logs are not available to the public yet.

We ask you to please test the chat and use this thread to ask questions and offer suggestions.

The chat is available here:
http://www.dragonsmark.com/live-chat/

Remember this is still a work in progress, and remember it's being logged.

Hello!

So, just a couple of questions --

Will the font be able to be changed? I see the option for it but it doesn't seem to actually apply when you click on what font you would like to use.

Will the background to the chat remain white or will that be blended to resemble the color the current chat we use? I only ask because if colors are imported (which I hope they will be; nothing worse than getting lost in a sea of black text!), then some colors that people use may seem brighter.

It does work, once you click on the chosen font you will see it once you start typing. We've had people testing it and I tried it on both Edge and Chrome, successfully. Which browser are you using?

I have plans to set up the background color to our current color. As for the text colors, if I add colors it will be a very limited choice. The reason is because the chat doesn't allow for players to change the colors of other players on their own screen. In other words, if someone picks neon pink as their color and you hate neon pink, you are stuck reading neon pink.

Makes sense! About the colors.

And currently using Chrome. Attempting to try it again to see if maybe I was just not doing something right.

EDIT: The fonts do work, I think I was assuming they weren't working as I would highlight which font I would want, but it wouldn't stay highlighted. If that makes sense. But everything looks pretty good!

It took me a minute to figure out the thing Peaches was talking about, but eventually I got it too!

I only played with it for a moment, but the one thing I noticed is that it does not allow you to italicize a single word in a sentence. Obviously this isn't a make or break thing, but I thought it was worth pointing out since I occasionally will italicize a single word to give it emphasis.

Also, I would pay money for comic sans to not be a font option. Razz

Thank you for this. Some of the colors that are currently available are indeed bright, and so many colors in a busy room can make the room hard to read, and can hurt the eyes. I usually change colors to either black or blue, depending on if a person is one I'm following. The other things I noticed during my time in there the admins are aware of.

The whisper function is nice also.

All in all, thumbs-up to the design team.

You can use standard code to change the font you want, same as here on the forum Smile For instance, if I want these words in italics in the new chat, I put an "i" in square brackets [] and then [/i] at the end. Should work with underlining, bolding but doesn't work with striking a word.

We should be able to add a colour wheel to the chat to select our chat colours...Buuuttt, I dunknow how Sad

Like I said, if we add colors it will be a very, very limited choice. They will be colors that won't be too disrupting or distracting.

Oh, neat! Thanks for the italics tip, Arthour! That's pretty simple.

Ok, made some minor adjustments and changes and added some colors.

Please test and comment.

It would take some getting used to. But it's not horrible. Smile
I like we're still able to turn the sounds off. Because that would make me batty (well, battier than I already am!) after a while.

The sounds were the first thing I turned off!
